“Beautiful place with beautiful people!”Ypie Kingma Knysna, South Africa

Thank you once again for a memorable and most enjoyable stay. Your new rooms are absolutely exquisite and your service matches that…. The little extra’s like the afternoon scones as well as the thoughtful reminder of our restaurant booking as well as your offer of hot water to make tea or coffee in the morning when the electricity happened to go off made us feel very special.
With the additional new rooms, your high level of service and detailed attention given to everything in your lodge, you won't have many rooms left open! Well done to you and your team!

“Fantastic hotel with an amazing staff with a unique service level”CasperRHansen Copenhagen, Denmark

We have travelled across South Africa and we have experienced a broad of different hotels and lodges. Blackwaters river lodge stands out from its peer’s. We surroundings are beautiful and the facilities are up 2 date. However, the service level you experience here is by far the best part. You really feel like a guest and a customer. The staff of this hotel is the most important asset - so if the owner reads this - please retain your employees :)

“Birthday Getaway”MountNoahLodge, Oudtshoorn, South Africa

We had the BEST time! Our toddler fell in love with the lush landscapes and a fellow frog statue. In the evening we were spoiled with great food and amazing staff company! A gem in the Garden Route, to say the least. Amazing rooms, with every comfort already thought of. Thanks to everyone in your team! Our stay was unforgettable. The Warringtons xoxo

“very peaceful”Manoj_V64, Mumbai, India

A peaceful location to stay. Though not in the centre of Knysna but, a nice serene place to stay for people with a vehicle. The owners are very good and caring. I recommend this property for families with children. It is very child friendly property. they offer free canyoning on the river.

“Salomie Visagie”Sybellav, East London, South Africa

I recently stayed at Blackwaters River Lodge and was pleasantly surprised at what a lovely place I found myself. The lodge is situated on the banks of the river and has beautiful and serene river and garden views. The room was modern and tidy; the staff where extremely friendly and attentive and the restaurant was divine.

“Central stop for Garden Route”Charmaine B, Hermanus, South Africa

I will recommend Blackwaters River Lodge as your base for exploring the Garden Route. Not only does it's location allow you to do many day trips from here, the setting and ambiance would want you to stay for longer than one night. Most of the rooms have lovely views over the forest and river, and even if you just want...

“Going the extra mile”Bryan H, Port Elizabeth, South Africa

I wasn't feeling well, so the restaurant staff kindly brought our meals to our unit. This has to be the most tranquil and idyllic place to recharge one's proberbial batteries. Rooms are spacious; towels and linen pristine.

“Amazing”aspatria_11, Hinton, Canada

An amazingly beautiful place to stay. Elmay and the staff were so pleasant and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and we were offered lots of advice on places to visit and things to see. A definite stopover on our next trip to South Africa, Thanks again

“Being spoilt!” VicLizWilson, West Palm Beach, Florida

We were lucky enough to choose Blackwaters River Lodge as our Knysna stop during a tour of the garden route in November 2013. From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed and well looked after. Elmay and her team have managed to find the right balance of spoiling and indulging their clients without intruding or making it look like a forced thing.

The natural smiles of the staff compliment the stunning grounds and peaceful accommodation. Anything we could ask for was accommodated and their local knowledge also allowed us to explore the surrounding areas and see the best bits.

Jonathan's food left us spoilt and his breakfast's always started the day on a most positive note - he is a passionate chef and it shows in his food.

The lodges expansive grounds mean that you can always find a peaceful spot with a great view or gather with friends and share a sun downer. There continues to be a lot of attention to detail in the accommodation and grounds that come not just from a good owner but someone who is passionate to share this magical spot they have found.

Our favorite part of our stay was being able to take Kayaks straight off the grounds onto the river behind and spend a peaceful day paddling all the way to the ocean; we saw wildlife galore but never another human being - where else can you find that these days?

We would recommend a visit to Blackwaters and will certainly be back next time we are in South Africa. Thank you Elmay and Team.

“Peaceful, relaxing and outstanding service” ABarnard148,Pretoria, South Africa

My family and I spend 4 nights in January at this beautiful hidden piece of heaven. Since the minute we arrived , we felt so welcome and at home. The owners with their staff were always friendly, helpful and nothing was ever too much for them to make us feel comfortable. Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with lovely views and tranquil surroundings.

Cleanliness and hygiene top priority for cleaning staff. Went with the canoes down the river and experienced amazing birdlife. Restaurant serves lovely meals and has friendly staff. Really enjoyed the freshly baked bread from the wood fired / pizza oven and slider trio (3 mini hamburgers with different sauces on the plate).

We liked the idea that we are away from the noise but also very central to enjoy activities in the area. Would love to come back in the near future.

“Garden cottages/rooms lovely if you have small kids. But for a little bit more, the luxury rooms are excellent value for money.”

“Five Star Stay and Service” John B, Villiersdorp, South Africa

What a lovely stay we had at this tucked away lodge. Bedrooms are spacious and very clean, lovely bathrooms with bath & showers. Peaceful, birdlife amazing and relax atmosphere in the restaurant with good food and friendly service. Food made freshly. Staff well trained and very helpful. This is a big property but well maintain. Will certainly be back.

“Must be like heaven” 56lesley, Johannesburg, South Africa

We travelled on Motor bikes down to Knysna - to be greated by the most amazing friendly staff. Our room was spotless clean, beautiful comfortable bed & bedding with a beautiful bathroom.

The Restaurant went 110% out of their way to serve the most beautiful food. It is biker friendly and just off the highway - easy to locate. Hiring of canoes you able to paddle far up the black water river with the sound of birds all over or spend the day playing golf. Definitely will return there for a relaxed few days.

“romantic gateway” joenin, Johannesburg

A beautiful lodge set with a beautiful backdrop of scenic mountains with a lavish golf course . The staff are friendly and very helpful.

The lodge is located 10km outside Knysna, and is opposite Buffalo Bay.

A great place for a family get away.
